There have been cases of people having problems importing video to Macs from the SR57E. Apple claim it is a compatible camera, Sony say there is a fault with the Apple OS...

The problem appears to be Apple's handling of Mpeg-2 conversion. Some users have found success using a free app called VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html which may be a little slow but does the job.

Alternatively if you don't mind buying a QuickTime component from Apple, you can download MPEG Streamclip for free and follow the instructions on their webpage: http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

There are other comercially-available solutions but these two are the cheapest / easiest.
